The Upright Citizens Brigade Television Writing Program offers aspiring writers a comprehensive curriculum focused on the art and craft of comedic TV writing. Through courses, workshops, lectures and Q&A’s from industry experts, participants learn key elements designed to give students a strong foundation in TV writing.
Our curriculum includes lessons on character development, story structure, comedic timing, and even how to create a pitch deck for your completed pilot. These courses are guided by experienced instructors with a background in television writing and comedy.

Plot Writing
In this course, you’ll develop a polished half-hour pilot from pitch to draft, with feedback at every stage. We’ll cover pilot concepts, character creation, structure, and dialogue in a collaborative workshop setting.

In this class, students will develop an idea for an animated TV series and turn it into a complete pitch document. You’ll learn the key elements of show creation, including crafting a strong concept and developing characters.

This course introduces students to audio comedy series (narrative podcasts). You’ll create a pitch, outline, and script for a 15-minute pilot, with weekly goals and workshops focused on bringing your story to life in audio format.
