Pop Star is a comedy solo show about my real life experience trying to be a teen pop star in 2010. I consider myself the “Rebecca Black” of my high school, except I didn’t go viral. Instead of “Friday” my hit song was “Shy Guy” which was about a boy I had a crush on who was…shy. I had multiple highly produced music videos, over 20 original songs, and even went on tour! My signature look vibrantly colored tutus and I DJ’d my music! However, most of my experience was shadowed by scams, lies, and pedophiles! With my mom by my side as my mom-manager we tried our hardest to break into the music industry. I was even in a teen pop girl group, before I went solo.

After graduating high school I tried to hide from my past. I was embarrassed, I deleted the evidence, I never wanted anyone to know this awful truth; that I tried to be this teen pop star. Then one late night I showed some friends my music videos and they were in shock. I immediately regretted it, but then they were like you should own this! Most teenagers wish they could’ve been a pop star and you actually tried, even if it’s cringe to you it’s not to us (you can decide if it’s cringe or not). So I decided to write a solo show about it. I put it up at UCB LA and after getting a standing ovation ~SAY WHAT~ I went on to have a full run at UCB LA. Pop Star was also performed at The Groundlings Theater several times to SOLD OUT audiences. Pop Star was in the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Festival and the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it received amazing audience reviews. Here’s what some people have to say about the show: “Your show was iconic PERFECTION!!! I don’t remember the last time I laughed so hard I was CRYING!”, “This was one of my favorite shows I’ve ever seen”, “I quite literally did not stop laughing at any point during Pop Star. It was also poignant in a way I was expecting and I think that just goes to show how great Devon’s writing and vision came together. Definitely a must see!”.
