God Is Obsessed With Me

Gilli Nissim is a UCB improviser and TV writer whose credits include all three seasons of The Other Two, Twisted Metal, and Gabby’s Dollhouse. The latter doesn’t really scream “this woman had a fantasy about mercy killing her own father,” but the preschool credit is what people have heard of the most, so, what can ya do.

For a long time, when the Well-Meaning would suggest her family’s experience with caring for a loved one with Alzheimers is “something to write about” and “make funny,” she would give a polite nod while thinking, “no way and why are you so stupid?” Write about Death and the American Healthcare system?! But, she’s fun! She’s light! In refusing to go down that dark well herself, she found herself watching one medical drama after another, where heroes emerge in times of tragedy to make all the wrong things right… and they made her wanna go buck wild Luigi Mangione-style. Luckily, Gilli is a pacifist. And a comedian. Eventually, she did find it extremely cathartic to write about a woman who navigates that world and absolutely does not rise to the challenge, but rather tears down as much of the unfair bullshit as she can in a blaze of cunty glory. The Well-Meaning were right. Isn’t that so fucking annoying?
