16 SUMMERS is having its international debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2025 and this is its send-off show. Let’s see if this works!
What is it?
One Gen Xers nostalgic coming-of-age tale traversing the building blocks of my identity. Each lesson we walk through is a lesson, a memory, a funny antidote and a conversation with the audience. Crowd work in a theater piece? Yes, so please be ready to speak and interact with me! Oh hi, I’m Ayindé. The play is fixed around the cleaning of memories in my father’s old room. A cast of characters from customers at Quickies (my family’s corner store) to the neighborhood boys, New York City slickers, and heavily religious family members. Interwoven into a musical, stand-up driven, spoken word commentary on masculinity and the state of the world today.
Reviews:
“Holy Portnoy!… This is an amusing vignette.” — Hollywood Progressive
“A case of realizing the fleeting precariousness of life.” — Curtain Up
